Living the abundant life

February 3, 2011

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."

John 10:10

Growing up in the 1950s there was a show that always fascinated me called, This Is Your Life. On this program, a fellow by the name of Ralph Edwards would select a person, make arrangements with his family, sneak into his house, and when the unknowing suspect came in, Ralph would be sitting there with a big book and say, "This Is Your Life!"

So they would bring him in, sit him on the couch, and in would come his elementary school teachers, his aunts, his uncles, and so on, and the viewers discovered everything they wanted to know about his life.

I want you to imagine if it were you sitting on that couch and hearing all the stories about when you were younger. You'd have some good laughs, but eventually, there would be nothing more to tell.

You know, that's exactly how the world today will tell you how to measure your life—by the limited time you have here on earth. But the life that Christ wants you to have in him is so much better than that!

When Jesus tells us that he came so that we can have life abundantly, he's not just talking about your time here on earth. Those who believe in Christ as their Savior will also spend eternity with him.

Your life here is precious, but your life to come will be even better. So trust in God's promises and cling to the abundant life that Christ offers you!

CHRIST CAME SO THAT YOU MAY LIVE ABUNDANTLY IN THIS LIFE AND THE LIFE TO COME!
