Secret Millionaire: Giving Out Loud

Laura MacCorkle

If you’re someone who has had trouble reconciling "that your giving may be in secret" Matthew 6:3-4 with "let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven" Matthew 5:14-16, then join the club.

Dani Johnson knows your pain. It’s why she said “no” four times, when ABC Television approached her about being a featured millionaire on their newest reality series: Secret Millionaire

Finally, though, the self-made millionaire, author and relationship marketing expert and her husband felt like God had given them a peace about the opportunity and had confirmed it in four miraculous ways. So they said “yes.”

To appear on the series, millionaires must leave what what they know behind (including their “millionaire” identities) and spend a week volunteering in impoverished communities while helping those less fortunate. After that time, they are asked to give sizeable financial gifts to those individuals and organizations they deem most in need.

It’s an interesting concept and has a similar vibe to other heartwarming and people-helping-people fare such as Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. So viewers looking for some tear-jerking moments and uplifting television for the whole family are encouraged to tune in.

If you’d like to know more about Secret Millionaire, you can read about Dani’s experience as the first millionaire featured in the new reality series in my interview with her here. And if you’d like to see the first episode, be sure to watch the premiere of Secret Millionaire this Sunday night, March 6, 2011, on ABC. Check your local listings for times.
