You Must Ask: Day Three

Lori Freeland

James 1:2-8

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does."

Dear Kyle,

This was the verse I marked in my Bible that first year when you were so sick. It reminds me we don't have because we don't ask. Sometimes God says no. I know this and I trust that He can see things I cannot. But sometimes I don't take things to Him because I assume He'll be too busy, or too unconcerned, or His answer will be no anyway. So today I am asking.

Lord,

I come before You now and ask for complete reversal of whatever happened during chemo and radiation. I am asking You to put Your hands on Kyle and make him better than he was before. Smarter, more focused, and more clear. Let him read the material, take notes, go to class and remember everything he learns. Then, when he sits down to take those exams, help him pull it all out again in an organized way that makes the test feel easy.

I pray for amazing grades. Incredible friendships. And kind professors who will step out and help Kyle when he needs a hand. Thank you for bringing him to a college where he can learn and love You at the same time. You are an enormous God, able to move mountains, and please don't ever let me forget that.
