Take Captive Every Thought: Day Four

Lori Freeland

Deuteronomy 31:8

"The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you;

he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Dear Kyle,

I felt your discouragement across the miles today and heard the frustration in your voice. My mother heart died a little bit. Why is it sometimes when we pray the hardest, our situation worsens before it improves? I think it's because God is about to do great things.

When I'm discouraged, I've learned that if I start listing the blessings in my life, my perspective changes. In God's upside-down economy turning my back on despair and refusing to get sucked into the defeat and anxiety of whatever situation I can't control is the fastest way to get rid of the hopelessness dragging me down.

Prayer:

Lord, Your Word says, "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ" (2 Cor. 10:5). I am praying that verse over Kyle today. Remind him that he doesn't have to dwell on the negative and build up scenarios in his head that haven't even happened yet. You are in control. You have a plan. Work a miracle for him today. Thank you.
