Why You Should Never Have Self-Confidence: Day Sixteen

Lori Freeland

Dear Maddy,

Confidence is a good thing, right?

Well, yes and no. It depends where you pin your confidence. Other people will always let you down. They can't help it--they aren't perfect, they're human. And so are you.

When you put your faith in others, you are setting yourself up for heartache. When you put faith in yourself, you are missing out on real strength. So where do you turn for strength that will lift you up in the worst of times?

What if instead of believing in yourself, you carried your self-esteem to God and left your fragile feelings in His hands? What if you realized right now at age eleven that everything good in you comes from Him? And the work He began in you, He has promised to finish?

Doesn't that take the pressure off? It's okay if people let you down. It's okay if you let yourself down. Because God's holding you in the palm of His hand and He won't ever drop you. He can't. Failure is not in His nature.

Check out these verses and let's see what God says.

Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Matthew 19:26
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Philippians 4:13
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Deuteronomy 3:24
“O Sovereign LORD, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works you do?

Philippians 1:6
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
