Revenge is Sweet...and Sour

A woman wrote to me today that she wished to take revenge on a man who had dated her for a time, expressed his love for her and then abandoned her. She felt duped, swindled and misled. She had given her heart to this man, only to be trampled upon and left confused. “How could he do this to me?” she asked. She went on to say, “I won’t let him get away with this. I’ll get even.” While taking revenge will feel good for a moment, it leaves us feeling cheapened and depleted. The Apostle Paul says it well: “Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord (Romans 12:19).
