John 4:3-18

Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw.” He said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.” The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’; for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.”(vv. 13-18)

God already knows about the wrong paths you’ve taken!

This woman was obviously hesitant to admit to Jesus she’d travelled a path of empty relationships. But Jesus knew that she’d have to openly face her wrong thinking if she wanted to receive His “living water”—His real fulfillment and life-satisfaction. So He took the conversation right to her sin.

When you ask God to meet you in your deep places of inner need, does He point to something that hurts His heart and ask you to turn away from it? Don’t try to hide that from God. You must leave that behind and allow God alone to satisfy you.
