VIDEO: Skiing with My Boys

Jim Daly

In Friday’s post, I mentioned the need to keep the fun in our marriages. Even as we juggle the many challenging aspects of married life, it’s good to find things to laugh about. Not only is laughter good for the soul (Proverbs 17:22), but I also think it’s God’s perfect medicine.

I like what Victor Hugo once wrote, that “laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.”

I know some of you have already had too much of winter. The country has been gripped in a thick layer of ice and snow.  Many of you have been inconvenienced. It’s no fun being stranded at an airport. I was stuck in New York a few weeks ago, so I can relate to the frustrations of this season.

But speaking of winter and laughter, I want to share a short video from a ski outing this past weekend that I took with our boys, Trent and Troy. I shot the video on my iPhone while skiing, so you’ll have to forgive its quality.

Focus is open today, Presidents Day. I’m sitting in my office catching up on the many areas of activity around the ministry. But when I look out the window and see our dramatic snow-covered peaks to the west, my mind goes back to the great time my boys and I had at Monarch Mountain here in Colorado.

Scripture reminds us that our lives are like a vapor, a mist (James 4:14), and so I’m mindful of how fleeting these experiences can be. It’s a good thing to be together, to laugh and play and talk about what matters most in life. I’m also thankful for cameras and technology which allow us to record the things our eyes have seen (Deuteronomy 4:9).

So maybe you’re thinking about taking that long weekend or that much anticipated vacation. Maybe you’ve been wanting to start a tradition of inviting your young son or daughter out for a weekly breakfast.

I’ll leave you with two words:

Do it.
