Colorado Springs: The Best City for Love?

Jim Daly

In a light-hearted article, the Wall St. Journal recently declared Colorado Springs, Colo., where Focus is headquartered, the top place in the U.S. to find love.

Seriously.

Here at Focus, we think that’s great.  In fact, we’re even holding a gathering event that might help cement that title: this Aug. 7-9 Focus on the Family’s Boundless ministry is hosting Pursuit 2014, a special weekend for single 18-39 year olds.

If you’re not familiar with Boundless, here’s a quick overview. One of our most popular outreaches, Boundless helps young adults grow up, own their faith, date with purpose and prepare for marriage and family. It’s led by the internationally known Lisa Anderson (you might have heard her on our recent broadcast on the love languages of singles).

Lisa and her nimble team interact every day with young men and women from all over the world who love Boundless’ weekly podcast, blog and sense of community. The pull for many of these singles is so strong that they make it a point to visit beautiful Colorado Springs from places near and far just so they can meet Lisa and her team.

Pursuit 2014 is “all awesomeness”

That spirit of community helped spur the Boundless team to go beyond the occasional small engagements it has hosted and put on a full-blown, multi-day gathering that’s part-conference, part meet-up, part adventure and – as Lisa puts it – “all awesomeness.”

Pursuit 2014 will be a weekend event for hundreds of like-minded singles from around the world that will feature teaching, worship, and mingling. It will feature Boundless contributors and experts like Tullian Tchividjian; Emerson Eggerichs and his daughter, Joy Eggerichs; Valorie Burton; and the aforementioned Lisa Anderson.

My wife Jean and I will be take part of a live taping of “The Boundless Show” podcast on Thursday night (Aug. 7). We’ll share our story of meeting, dating and marrying, and what God taught us throughout that process.

Near and dear to the heart of the Boundless team, though, was the goal to make this much more than just a conference. That’s why Pursuit 2014 includes plenty of down-time aimed at letting the attendees meet, hang out, and mingle. From a coffeehouse/mixer on opening night to a 5K run/walk, various affinity mini meet-ups, and outdoor games of volleyball and ultimate Frisbee, there will be plenty of opportunity for singles to get the fellowship and support they need to encourage each other and just have fun.

If you’re someone who has a single adult in your life – may I encourage you to consider investing in the next generation of marriages and families by letting your single know about Pursuit 2014? Maybe that young man or woman needs a nudge in our direction. Whatever it is, please pray they open their heart to the possibility of attending what could be a life-changing event, and please consider giving them the help they need to make it happen.
