Today’s Special is: Anchor Yourself to the Word of God

Lord, if it’s you, Peter replied, tell me to come to you on the water. Come, he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, Lord, save me!

Entrée:
The bills poured in and the rain came down. A medical emergency arose and the thunder roared. Then the car broke down and the floodgates opened.
Have you experienced such financial difficulty that you felt like you were in a terrible storm?
All of us have experienced this at one time or another. Each time I tried to clean up the damage of the last financial crisis, another one would happen, causing me to fall in a hole so deep it felt impossible to crawl out of it.
Even the apostle Peter experienced some storms in his life, only his were literal ones. Yet, like Peter, Jesus expects us to draw near to Him when the storms rage. When Peter called out to God to help Him during the heavy winds and insurmountable waves, he trusted that God would be there for Him.
When the storms rage in my life, I anchor myself in the Word of God. During that difficult financial time, I reread the story of Peter in Matthew 14:21-34. It reminded me that even when things seem impossible, God will be there if I call out to Him.
Take Out:
The storms in our lives can feel so difficult it may seem impossible to see the sunshine on the other side. But you can weather those storms if you anchor yourself to the Word of God.
Memorize Matthew 11:28 and remember that God is there for you whenever you need Him.
Dessert:
Lord, help us to anchor ourselves to Your word when the storms rage in our lives.
