Thousands gathered at Grace Community Church on Sunday (Nov. 2) in support of the “Houston Five,” the pastors who recently had their sermons addressing homosexuality subpoenaed by the city. Houston Mayor Annise Parker rescinded the subpoenas after the news prompted a national backlash.
The Christian Post reports that “I Stand Sunday,” drew such celebrities names as the Benham Brothers, Mike Huckabee and Phil Robertson.
Huckabee said that the event in support of the pastors attracted people from across the country because "They find it unimaginable that in the U.S. this type of brutish act would take place. They expect it in North Korea, they expect in Russia, in Iran. They do not expect it in Houston, Texas."
Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson said, "America, America, it cannot be said too strongly or too often that this great nation was not founded by religionists but by Christians. Not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This is a sign to them, your opposition, that they will be destroyed, you will be saved — it has been granted to you, you lucky Texans.”
A telecast of the event was served to 765 churches and 3,000 home groups nationwide.
