Bestselling Author Jerry B. Jenkins Shuts Down Christian Writers Guild

Carrie Dedrick

Bestselling author Jerry B. Jenkins has reportedly shut down his Christian Writers Guild (CWG) after 14 years of running the organization. Jenkins is most well-known for co-writing the “Left Behind” series.

A message from Jenkins posted on the CWG homepage read, “...you’ve found my [website] just as I’m shutting down the Guild after 14 years of ministry.”

According to Taylor University director of professional writing Dennis E. Hensley, Jenkins invested millions of dollars into the ministry, but gained no financial return.

However, the CWG was a "great service to developing writers.”

Hensley continued, "He does not engage in debates about who-did-what leading to his decision to close CWG. I assure any who seek my take on this that Jerry will always do the honorable thing, even to the detriment of his own finances or personal time. I have never known a better man."

Christianity Today reports that CWG president Dave Sheets resigned from his position earlier this month.

He said, "It was an honor to have been a part of CWG which has served authors for 50 years, and I'm blessed to enjoy continued friendship with Jerry. We're both sad that CWG is closing. I am pleased, though, that we have an alternative to help authors."

Students who received training from the CWG will now have the option to study with TheBelieversGroup through its nonprofit branch, BelieversTrust. Some CWG staff will transfer to BelieversTrust as well.
