Café Menu for Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Today’s Special is: Being transformed by the renewing of our mind.

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Savannah Parvu

Main Ingredient:

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is –His good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 12:2 NIV

Entrée:

All of my life I have had negative things programmed into my life. I was always told things that were not true about myself and so that’s what I ended up believing and even telling myself. The lies that played over and over in my head began to consume me and were behind the decisions that I made. I lived my life based upon my thoughts and feelings and not on truth.

When I gave my life to the Lord and allowed Him to begin to heal my wounds, He showed me that a lot of the hurt I was still feeling was coming from the lies I was continuing to tell myself. I was always fighting a constant battle, but it wasn’t with other people, it was a battle that I was fighting with my thoughts. This is something I still catch myself doing and I have to try to stop the thoughts before they begin to consume me.

Our scripture above tells us that we are to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. That means we have to reprogram our minds by taking out all of the lies that have been stuffed in there over the years and replace them with God’s truth. One of the most effective ways I’ve found to renew my mind is by taking thoughts captive to make it obedient to Christ, as it says in 2 Corinthians 10:5. When a lie creeps in my mind such as, “You’re unlovable,” I stop and remind myself that is a lie because the Bible tells us that Jesus loves us and that we are the apple of His eye.

Take Out:

Think about the things you tell yourself and the thoughts that come up for you during the day. Are you telling yourself lies or are you telling yourself truth? Write some of those thoughts down and find the scriptures that tell you the truth pertaining to those lies.

Dessert:

Dear Lord, thank You for the TRUTH that is found in Your word. Help us to empty our minds of all the lies and replace them with Your truth. Help us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
