November 29 is C.S. Lewis’s birthday!

Born in Northern Ireland 1898, C.S. (Clive Staples) Lewis, would become one of the most influential (and most quoted) Christian authors and thinkers in modern history.

Before Lewis became a famous writer, he was a voracious reader and especially enjoyed Beatrix Potter’s talking animals as a child. As he grew into a young adult, Lewis’s attention shifted to the similarly imaginative, but more complex reading tastes of Norse mythology and Greek literature.

Although C.S. Lewis left this world for eternity in November 1963, he left behind over 30 written works of fiction and nonfiction. One of his most widely enjoyed series, The Chronicles of Narnia, has sold over 100 million copies!

Beyond the written word, for which Lewis tends to be most remembered, his life was full of adventure. He served as a solider in World War I, a BBC broadcaster during World War II, a friend to J.R.R. Tolkien, and a husband to Joy.

On Lewis’s birthday, fans can remember his legacy in their own lives. Maybe Screwtape Letters opened your eyes to a unique viewpoint on spiritual warfare. Perhaps, The Four Loves helped deepen your relationships with others or with God. Did reading The Problem of Pain encourage you not be afraid of asking God tough questions? Or maybe Lewis’s greatest impact in your life was when you enjoyed an imaginative journey through a magical wardrobe.

Although each of Lewis’s 30 plus books are well worth a reader’s time, here is a video of five selected quotes to either introduce or remind you of the encouragement to be found in a C.S. Lewis book.
