Somebody Loves You - June 20

True Friends

And David brought up the men who were with him, every man with his household. So they dwelt in the cities of Hebron. - 2 Samuel 2:3

David had been living in the land of the Philistines for a year and four months. He had left Israel when Saul would not stop pursuing him. When David left Israel, he brought with him 600 men who were faithful to him. They would never betray him. The reason he had faithful men is because the Lord sent these 600 men to David. They were outcasts of Israel but they were very faithful to David.

These faithful men and their households went to Ziklag with David and remained with him until David brought them up with him to Hebron. This was a very important move for David and his men. They had to rely on the Lord to make this move, because unless He was with them, they would not succeed in Israel.

When David and his men returned to Israel, the children of Israel may not have welcomed them. The people could have turned against them. They may not have wanted David as king. However, David’s men stood by him, stepped out in faith and returned to Israel.

This is so important, because we do not want to surround ourselves with people who are not loyal. They will betray you and only have their own agendas. They are not loyal to you. They are loyal to themselves and will stand by you as long as it serves their purposes. Be careful of the Judases, and surround yourselves with true friends like Paul, Peter and John.

Counterfeiting friendship is worse than counterfeiting money.
