Submission & Dependence
Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. But David grew stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker. - 2 Samuel 3:1
This was a very sad period of time for the nation of Israel, because they were not united. God had brought them into the Promised Land and given them victory over their enemies, but now they were at war with each other. They were no longer a united nation under the Lord. They were divided by men, but this was never God’s plan.
Notice, Judah was being led by the Lord. They accepted God’s anointed, and David was a man of character and power. It was not his own power; it was the power of God. David had submitted his life to God, and he led the people according to God’s Word.
This is very important for us to learn in our own personal lives. Whenever you submit your life to God, He goes before you and He is the One who opens the doors or closes the doors. He makes you stand still and He directs when you are to move forward.
David’s submission and dependence on the Lord are the reasons for his success. It was all about God. He did not rely upon his own wisdom or power. He was led by the Lord and God empowered him to lead the people.
If we want to be successful at anything in this life, we have to be submitted and dependent on the Lord. We have to lead and guide according to His Word and His will.
All life should be subject to the kingly rule of God.
