Faithful & Just

Now it was told King David, saying, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness. - 2 Samuel 6:12

When the Lord blessed the house of Obed-Edom, everyone knew, including King David. The people saw the hand of God moving in the house of Obed-Edom and they went and told King David. He knew why they were being blessed—it was the Ark of the Covenant—the presence of the Lord was in their home.

Remember, when God had struck Uzzah for touching the Ark of God, David got angry and grew fearful of the Lord. At the time, he thought it would be better to leave the Ark where it was. Seeing God move in the house of Obed-Edom, David realized his error and went again to bring the Ark to Jerusalem. He knew the presence of the Lord had to be in Jerusalem.

It is important to recognize; David had reacted in emotions. He had gotten angry with God and then fearful. Instead of inquiring of the Lord when He struck Uzzah dead, he ran. He knew God was faithful and just, but he allowed anger and fear to control his actions.

We have to always remember the faithfulness and justice of the Lord. He does not punish unjustly. He has given us His Word, with the blessings and the curses, so we can choose for ourselves, which one we will live with.

A God who could pardon without justice might one day pardon without reason.
