Faithful to Your Call

So they brought the ark of the Lord, and set it in its place in the midst of the tabernacle that David had erected for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. - 2 Samuel 6:17

In 1 Samuel 4, the Ark of the Covenant was taken into battle by Israel and captured by the Philistines. They passed it from city to city, as the Lord brought plagues upon the Philistines. Finally, the Philistines sent the Ark away on a cart, so they would not be punished by the Lord anymore. The Ark came back to Israel but it had not been in the tabernacle for many years.

David brought the Ark to Jerusalem and built the tabernacle for it, but it was not a building, it was a tent, just as the children of Israel had when they were traveling through the wilderness. As we read further in 2 Samuel, we will see David was not allowed to build the tabernacle. He was a man of blood, so Solomon, his son, would build it.

Even though David did not build the building, he was still faithful to bring the Ark to Jerusalem, put up the tent for the tabernacle and consecrate it to the Lord with burnt offerings and peace offerings to the Lord.

As we serve the Lord, we have to realize God has a plan. Sometimes He calls you to put a tent up, but He calls somebody else to build His big building. You have to know your call. God entrusts people because He sees their hearts; that is the way God entrusts people.

How much can God entrust in your life? Are you happy to do what God has called you to do?

God requires no more than faithfulness in our place.
