No Excuses

So David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the Lord.” - 2 Samuel 6:21

While Michal tried to shame David for dancing before the people, the shame was turned back on her. David knew who he was dancing before and he knew he was a servant of the Lord, so he did not allow Michal to ruin his day of celebration. Instead, he pointed her to the truth. He did not make excuses; he simply explained where she was wrong.

Not only did David correct Michal’s assumptions, he also put her in her place. He called her out for her jealousy. God had chosen David over her father, Saul, and his house. He called David to be the ruler over His people. She was so bitter about her circumstances, she tried to put David down and make him less.

When people come against us, and they will come against us, God does not want us to get down or make excuses. He simply wants us to stand on the truth. God has called us and He is doing a work in us, so we cannot take any credit for anything and we will not be shamed for serving the Lord.

David did not act shamefully before the people. We should never act shamefully and try to use God as an excuse. When we worship and celebrate the Lord, we should never allow someone to shame us or make us feel bad. We serve an awesome God and He deserves our worship.

There is a vast difference between an excuse and a reason. There may be some validity in the latter but not in the former.
