Somebody Loves You - December 16

Empowered By God

“Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth.”’” - 2 Samuel 7:8-9

I love how God spoke to David, His servant. First, He reminded David; He never lived in a cedar house and did not ask for a cedar house, because He is omnipresent. He is God and does not have a house to dwell in. He wanted David to recognize His power and presence.

Once He made David realize He was beyond limitations, He went on to explain David’s position. He had been a shepherd boy out in the fields when God sent Samuel to anoint him as the next king of Israel. He was a young boy, not a powerful warrior.

When David was in the fields with the sheep, God protected him and empowered him to defeat the lions and bears that tried to take his sheep. That was only the beginning; God protected him from Goliath, Saul, the Philistines and every person or nation that came against him. God made him a great man in the eyes of all the people in every nation.

Everything David had and everything he became was because of God. That is what He wants us to recognize. With God, there is nothing we cannot do. Without Him, we will never succeed in anything. He raises up and He sets down. He empowers our lives.

God watches and weeds us, and continues His labour upon us, till He brings us to the end of His promise.
