Sinner in the Mirror

Then King David went in and sat before the Lord; and he said: “Who am I, O Lord God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?” - 2 Samuel 7:18

Underline this verse and examine David’s words and attitude. After hearing the promises God had the prophet Nathan tell him, David went in and sat before the Lord. He simply and humbly said, “Who am I? Who am I, Lord?” David could not believe the incredible promise of God. Why would He bless him and his descendants to come forever?

David was a man who knew who he was in his heart. That is the reason he sat before the Lord in great humiliation and wondered why the Lord would bless him so tremendously. He understood the grace and mercy of the Lord, as only a man who knows his true nature can appreciate. When David looked in the mirror, he saw a sinner. He was not deceived by pride and position.

What a great lesson we have from David’s life. It seems we should never ever leave humility. What happens to people who are successful and sometimes become famous? They get all puffed up. When they go to a restaurant or a store, they expect special service. I have even seen this among pastors and among evangelists. As Christians, we should never get puffed up. We are nothing; it is all the Lord. He raises up and He sets down.

I love Billy Graham. He is always simple; a great example for every Christian. Be careful with success. Keep your eyes on the Lord, stay simple and stay humble before God.

Humility is the ability to see ourselves as God describes us.
