Bringing in the Harvest

And the king called Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said to him, “I have given to your master’s son all that belonged to Saul and to all his house. You therefore, and your sons and your servants, shall work the land for him, and you shall bring in the harvest, that your master’s son may have food to eat. But Mephibosheth your master’s son shall eat bread at my table always.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. - 2 Samuel 9:9-10

Remember, Mephibosheth was crippled. He could not take care of himself. David’s kindness towards him took that into consideration. The land would need to be worked and the harvest reaped. The servant Ziba, his fifteen sons and twenty servants were commanded to work the land and to“bring in the harvest.” In fact, they all would be well provided for. From David’s kind actions, Mephibosheth would learn about God’s forgiveness.

Think about that! What has God done for each and everyone one of us? We were crippled by sin, yet He has forgiven us and abundantly provided for our salvation through Jesus Christ! Our condemnation and guilt are gone completely and fully. We are rich in Christ!

As the Lord of the Harvest, He now sends us as His disciples out to work in His field; the world.  We sow the seeds of His Word, sharing the Gospel with those people we meet. We are all working together to “bring in the harvest” of saved souls (Matthew 9:37-38).

Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness, sowing in the noontide and the dewy eye, waiting for the harvest and the time of reaping, we shall come rejoicing bringing in the sheaves.
