Making the Enemy Flee
So Joab and the people who were with him drew near for the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him. When the people of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fleeing, they also fled before Abishai, and entered the city. So Joab returned from the people of Ammon and went to Jerusalem. - 2 Samuel 10:13-14
As Joab went out to fight the battle with his army, God went before him. The enemy fled and the strength of the Syrians melted. It caused a chain reaction and Ammon also fled in fear. As a result, they were able to return to Jerusalem victoriously.
All throughout Israel’s history God used valiant men to fight against Israel’s enemies:
...For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens - (Hebrews 11:32-34).
We may not have to go onto a physical battle field to face the enemy, but we are called to be in a spiritual battle. How is that battle won? The Apostle James tells us: ... submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you (James 4:7). Are you staying submitted to God?
Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before Him. - Psalm 68:1
