The Blessings of God’s Anointing

Thus says the LordGod of Israel: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. - 2 Samuel 12:7

God reasoned with David over his sin; He began to remind him of all the blessings he had received when he had walked closely with God in fellowship. David was chosen to become king when he was just a shepherd boy. God had Samuel anoint him, while Saul lost his anointing through disobedience (1 Samuel 16:11-14).

Saul, knowing that God’s hand was now upon David, began to persecute him. But God delivered David and in His faithfulness placed him on the throne. Psalm 89:20-23 reflects back on David’s anointing and the Lord’s promises for his future:

I have found My servant David; with My holy oil I have anointed him, with whom My hand shall be established; also My arm shall strengthen him. The enemy shall not outwit him, nor the son of wickedness afflict him. I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague those who hate him.

God reasoned with us concerning our sins (Isaiah 1:18). We were lost sinners and the Lord found us, our sins were forgiven and we were given the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). God anoints our lives to serve Him and live the Christian life in victory (Acts 1:8). We were delivered from Satan our enemy and brought into God’s kingdom (Colossians 1:13). Never take for granted God’s anointing and the spiritual blessings He has given to you. Without the anointing of God we cannot do anything!

But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you…
