George Washington’s Birthday

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord… - Psalm 33:12

Although Psalm 33 was written concerning the children of Israel, America has claimed to be ‘one Nation under God’. Our first President and one of the Founding Fathers, George Washington was a Christian man. He kept a prayer journal and continually referred to Almighty God during the war against the British. He prayerfully asked for continued blessings on our new nation.

During the cold winter of 1777-78 at Valley Forge, General George Washington sought God’s help in prayer. Witnessed by Isaac Watts, the snowy scene was described:

I saw the great George Washington on his knees alone, with his sword on one side and his cocked hat on the other. He was at prayer to the God of the Armies, beseeching to interpose with his divine aid, as it was ye crisis and the cause of the country, of humanity, and of the world. Such a prayer I never heard from the lips of man…

Arnold Friberg painted the famous, “The Prayer at Valley Forge” in 1975. It was painted to serve the cause of liberty and to remind Americans of their countries deep spiritual roots. I believe with all my heart, for the sake of our children and grandchildren, we must remain on our knees in prayer if we are to stay ‘one Nation under God’.

It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.
