God’s Mercy in Judgment
…And Nathan said to David, “The Lordalso has put away your sin; you shall not die.” - 2 Samuel 12:13
The LORD is merciful in His judgment towards David. He deserved to die for committing adultery and murder, but he received God’s mercy instead. Notice, that God had put away David’s sin. In the Hebrew language the word is abar, which means: pass by, to remit and to forgive. In the Old Testament, sin was covered by the blood of animal sacrifices. In the New Testament, it was completely taken away by the shed blood of Christ on the cross (Hebrews 9:26-28).
Although David would reap the consequences of his sin, God’s mercy still followed David in his life and he was never forsaken eternally. David had an amazing thought in Psalm 23:6: Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
When a Christian falls into sin, Satan is always there condemning and reminding them of how they failed. He will use people to throw their sin back into their face. Remember, condemnation will take a person away from the cross and keep them from being restored, fully and completely.
Use Scripture to fight against thoughts of condemnation, Romans 8:1 says: There istherefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Notice, the key to keep us from falling into sin and suffering condemnation is to walk in the Spirit.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
