Untamed Lust

After this Absalom the son of David had a lovely sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.  Amnon was so distressed over his sister Tamar that he became sick; for she was a virgin. And it was improper for Amnon to do anything to her. - >2 Samuel 13:1-2

Remember, God had forgiven David but there is a law of sowing and reaping. Through his children he was going to reap, big time. David and Maacah had a beautiful daughter named Tamar, in the Hebrew, her name means––palm tree.  She was the sister of Absalom and Amnon’s half-sister.

It is important to understand that Amnon was lusting after Tamar, this was not true love. His lust for her was so strong that it caused him to get physically sick. Notice, he knew she was a virgin and that it was sinful to harm her. It is obvious that there was a strong battle going on between his flesh and what he knew to be the right way to act towards Tamar (Leviticus 18:6, 9-11).

When we know God’s Word, we are not ignorant when we sin, we are fully aware of what is right and what is wrong.  If we are to overcome our fleshly desires, the flesh will need to come under submission to the Word of God.  We must put our fleshly passions and evil desires to death as Galatians 5:24 tells us: And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

The worst thing you can do is feed the flesh, it can never be satisfied.

Lust is appetite run wild.
