Somebody Loves You - March 19

SATURDAY 19 March, 2016

The Hour Has Come

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He shouldgive eternal life to as many as You have given Him.And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. - John 17:1-3

Many people refer to Matthew 6:9-13 as the ‘Lord’s Prayer’,but in reality John 17 is the ‘Lord’s Prayer’. Earlier in John 2:4 Jesus said to His mother,“My hour has not yet come.” He was referring to the revelation of who He was as the Christ, His miracles and His earthly ministry. Here Jesus says, “Father, the hour has come”, in reference to His suffering, death, resurrection and glorification.

Jesus knew the future ahead of Him and what needed to be accomplished to secure the salvation of lost sinners. His time to die was at hand and His mission would be finished. John 17:4-5 tells us:

I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

Do you understand God’s divine purposes in John 17:1-3? God has purposed for us to know Him and Jesus Christ, who has the authority to give us eternal life. Notice another important truth. There is only one true God. The only way to God is through His Son, Jesus Christ, whom He sent (John 14:6).

Do you know the only true God? Do you have eternal life? This Easter week would be a perfect time to repent of your sins and accept Jesus as your Savior.

Eternal life does not begin with death; it begins with faith.
