Ryan Duncan

For months now it has been rumored that Emily Blunt, star of such films as The Huntsman: Winter’s War and Into the Woods, would take up the role of Disney’s flying nanny. Now, reports from the A.V. Club and Relevant Magazine have confirmed the news, Emily Blunt will play Mary Poppins in an upcoming sequel. Set to release in 2018, Mary Poppins Returns will continue the story of the magical nanny as told through the works of P.L. Travers. The new film has also reportedly cast Lin-Manuel Miranda, the man behind Hamilton, as a street lamplighter named Jack. Opinions are split on Disney’s new project, with many fans believing the studio should have left the classic alone.

Still, others are intrigued by the prospect of a new film, but it appears we’ll have to wait to find out.
