Time with God - June 9, 2016

John 16:7-11

“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”

When you live as a witness, convincing people to trust in Jesus is not up to you!

As a witness, you will be loving to the people around you. You will invest in your relationships with non-churched people you encounter. You will look for opportunities to speak about life issues on the deeper level. You’ll share with them about your relationship with God. You’ll weave the gospel into your conversations.

But none of those things will bring a person to salvation. What you do is not the most important factor. What the Spirit does is the key! The Holy Spirit takes your words and actions and fills them with his spiritual power that penetrates into a person’s heart and mind, convicting and convincing.

Your witness is essential—rarely does anyone turn to Christ without it. But your witness is not enough. That’s why you must cultivate the awareness of the Spirit’s presence with you as you interact with those who need Christ. Even as you talk and relate to them, be in prayer, asking for insight and for the Spirit’s anointing on your words and actions. There’s power in that way of living!

Take a moment now to ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse you and fill you with his power as you interact with people today.
