Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly Creating Sherlock Holmes Movie

Ryan Duncan

We’re pretty sure even the original Sherlock Holmes wouldn’t have seen this coming. After starring together in such films as Step Brothers and Talladega Nights, actors Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly will team up once again for a comedic rendering of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic detective stories. According to Deadline and Relevant Magazine, the new film will be called Holmes & Watson, and see Ferrell take on the persona of Holmes while Reilly plays his faith sidekick, Watson. As Deadline has pointed out, this is hardly the first reimagining of the classic duo. Currently audiences are familiar with the Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, the CBS drama Elementary which features Lucy Liu and Johnny Lee Miller, and the critically acclaimed BBC series Sherlock which made Benedict Cumberbatch a household name.

Still, this is the first known film to take such a lighthearted jab at the famous detective. While there is currently no release date for Holmes & Watson, it has been confirmed that the film will be directed by Ethan Cohen (who helped create such films as Idiocracy and Tropic Thunder).
