Proverbs 21:30-31

“No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the Lord. The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.”

Work hard and trust the Lord!

We have to constantly keep these two things in balance, don’t we? We need to prepare the horse for the day of battle, but at the same time we need to recognise that victory belongs to the Lord. In general, the Lord doesn’t work through us apart from our activity; rather, he works THROUGH our activity, as we look to him and wait for him and trust in him.

Is God calling you to full time ministry? Then prepare yourself the best you can—do your theological studies, equip yourself for ministry, read books. God will put his hand on your studies and preparation, and on you yourself. He will work through those things to prepare you for ministry.

But also develop your inner self, your daily walk with God, your prayer life, your faith; because it is through your ongoing personal relationship with God that God’s power will flow.

No matter how well prepared and organised and studied you are for your ministry, remember that victory belongs to the Lord. Unless he puts his hand of power and anointing on what you do, it will not be worth much. But if he does, then you will be ministering in his power.
