Isaiah 11:2-3

“And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear.”

Always go into ministry situations in the power of the Holy Spirit!

In these verses, Isaiah is prophesying about the ministry of the Lord Jesus on earth, which was still centuries away at that time. Isaiah foresaw that Jesus would not minister in his own power as God, but would live as a man, depending on God’s power through the Holy Spirit’s work in his life.

When God anointed Jesus for his ministry, Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit, and Isaiah describes the fruit of the Spirit in his ministry in this passage. The Spirit would bring to Jesus’ ministry: wisdom, understanding, counsel, strength, knowledge, the fear of the Lord, and discerning judgement.

If the Lord Jesus needed these things from the Spirit to fulfil his calling from God the Father, how much more do we need the anointing of the Holy Spirit in our ministry? Do not move forward one more day in your ministry without calling on God to anoint you with the Holy Spirit for the work he has for you to do.
