The annual March for Marriage is scheduled to take place in a couple weeks in Washington D.C., according to The Christian Post.
Organizers of the event are especially encouraged in their cause this year by America’s Republican political leadership--many of whom are more sympathetic to conservative views of marriage.
"We have potentially better allies in Washington, compared with the antipathy shown toward religious freedom and traditional values by the former [Obama] administration," said Joseph Grabowski, a spokesman for the National Organization for Marriage.
"Trump, as a candidate and since taking office, has made repeated promises to people of faith to protect their interests and values — one of the major reasons that Christians and other faith constituencies turned out in large majorities to support his election,” Grabowski added.
Grabowski and others who hold conservative views regarding marriage are also pleased with the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court. Grabowski expressed his hopes that the Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court decision, which legalized same-sex marriage, may be overturned.
The true purpose of the annual march, explained Grabowski, is to express religious freedom concerns and to let lawmakers know that there is ample support for traditional marriage.
"We are trying to send a message to the Administration and leaders in Congress that they need to act to protect those who believe in traditional marriage and traditional values about family and sexuality from the kinds of onerous lawsuits and discriminatory targeting by government that we have seen with increasingly frequency and intensity,” said Grabowski.
