A Morning With Michael Loftis

Dr. Ray Pritchard

1:51 PM During our time together this morning, Michael talked a lot about how there has been a "tectonic shift" in evangelicalism as a younger generation has risen to leadership in many ministries. Old walls are coming down and Christian ministries are forming new partnerships for the sake the gospel. I heartily applaud this and think it's a wonderful witness to the world when Christians learn how to set aside their differences and decide to "major on the majors" and not on the minors. Michael is doing a great job leading this tremendous missionary organization, and I find it a tonic to my own soul to be around people whose hearts are set on reaching the world for Christ.

1:47 PM I made it to ABWE headquarters in Harrisburg about a few minutes after 10 PM last night. This morning Michael Loftis, the president, picked me up for breakfast. I hadn't seen Michael since our college days in Chattanooga, Tennessee 31 years ago. Marlene and Michael's wife Jo Beth sang in the same college choir together. After breakfast Michael gave me a tour of the very impressive facilities and told me about the amazing things God is doing around the world through the 1200 ABWE missionaries. Tonight I'm speaking at their annual Christmas banquet. They invite people from the community, vendors and those who have served them to come for dinner, music and a short message. Afterwards Michael will give a simple gospel presentation. All those attending will receive a packet of books, including something by Rick Warren, a book by Lee Strobel, and a copy of Why Did This Happen to Me?

1:38 PM While speaking at a Bible conference in Maine several years ago, I met Carl and Gina Bottorf, foundersof  Arise Medical Missions, a ministry offering medical services in restricted-access countries such as Vietnam and Nepal. They recently started  a weblog that offers an inside glimpse of their heart and ministry.

1:37 PM Luis Palau is
rethinking his earlier comments on religious freedom in China.
