Be careful of how you define the Word of God Easter may be a misinterpretation since in that time of interpreting christians were as well keeping the pagan holiday. Look at context clues did the disciples from then on in ANY way keep or practice that day. We have the rite of Baptism to celebrate or better put memorize the death and resurrection of Christ because we die to self and arise anew as He did. Anything even tainted with paganism should be shunned we should have nothing to do with them in all our families, we should deal in that which is pure (Phillippians 4:8). I don't think the child was carrying his lunch, think about it 5 loaves and 2 fish? That's a little much for a child don't you think? It is best not to add your thoughts outside of inspiration to the events of the Bible unless it coincides with scripture and can by them be proven.

I never thought about that story in that manner. When my children and wife get up I need to get them to read it. We do make sure that our kids have always known the true meaning of Easter. I make them tell me each year. We also try to stop what we are doing at 3:00PM and pray, since that is roughly the time that Jesus died for us.

The condition of our hearts does matter BUT obeying God's Word should be our hearts' desire. The verses quoted above regarding not adding to His Word and following His ways are our goal. We can't judge someone else's heart but their actions...like tying a pagan celebration to our Savior. The two don't mix. There are many verses that teach us (by example of OT followers) not to worship God in pagan ways. I encourage the author to research this for herself. While alot of people argue that the word "Easter" is actually in the Word, few people understand that the Easter mentioned in Acts 12:4 is the pagan holiday...not Passover!! The believers weren't celebrating it, the world was. There is so much paganism that has sifted into Christianity today because we are ignorant of history. Check it out for yourself. We're commanded to "test everything" (1 Thess. 5:21). I pray that this causes you to look for yourself and see what is celebrated and why. God bless!!

I thought the artical was creative. The comments were over the top! The common definition (these days) of Easter is, a christian celebration of Christ ressurection. Most of us these days are not so legalistic that we can't have easter baskets in our homes, but that doesn't mean we're celebrating a pagan holiday! It is clear in the Bible the Lord cares most what is in our hearts! Regardless of the easter baskets present in many of our homes, our hearts are focused on honoring our Lord, no one and nothing else. I do not read this article and think, "Oh, easter really was in the Bible and so were Easter baskets,". Nor do I say to my husband, "Honey we should start celebrating the first Easter basket," after reading this! It is creative literature. I like the correlation between Jesus breaking the 5 loaves and His body being broken for us. Everything in the Bible points to Jesus, And the article points this out! She was not writing scripture, just writing an article! I appreciate her gift.

(Romans 1:25)..who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped the creature more than the Creator.(Revelation 22:18-19).if any man take away or add to the prophsey of this book.(Deuteronomy 4:2).Ye shall not add unto the word..neither dimminish from it. There are so many scriptures that warn against this manner of teaching for in doing this you are adding the false fables of paganism into the teachings of God's Word. This leads the little children away from the True Word of God. Jesus did not offer a basket of false teachings, but taught life through the obedience of God's Commandments, and to offer this kind of message is to forbid the little children to come to a truthful knowledge of Jesus. (Matthew 19:13) Suffer little children, and forbid them not...Rather it is teaching them that a pagan practice is what the Resurrection of Jesus is all about. Read the Bible and teach in truth and honesty the Memory of the Birth, Crucifixion, Resurrection, and Ascension of Christ our Lord

PS-Barley is a cleansing agent in the Bible. The loaves of barley is another symbol of people being cleansed by the Word of God--which during Jesus' time--was the Torah. The New Testament had not yet been written so Jesus taught from the Torah, from the books of the Prophets and from what the books of wisdom (Psalms/Proverbs).

Go back to the Scriptures and note that the miracle of the fish and loaves took place close to Passover. Right after Passover is the Counting of the Omer (Barley) which counts the days until Pentacost--the next festival day of God that celebrates the giving of the His Word at Mt. Sinai.

Nice accounting of Christ's miracle but I fail to see how the basket is linked to Easter. Easter is directly linked to pagen fertility worship and not mentioned in the Bible as a form of worship for the believer. Instead, the Lord instituted Passover as His festival to be celebrated for all mankind. It was the Passover feast that Christ celebrated in the upper room before His death and resurrection and it was the Afikomen and the Cup of Redemption that He offered to His disciples after the meal.

My understanding of the fishes and the loaves is that it does have great symbolism, but not with Easter. The five loaves is an idiom/metaphor for teaching people from the Word of God (the first 5 books-Torah), the fish represented the house of Judah (the Jews) and the house of Israel (the scattered ones). When you teach both houses from the word of God, the gathered/returned pieces in 12 baskets represented the lost tribes scattered to the nations gathered back together by the Lord Himself.
