I agree with other comments here--this article is not clear at all. Many of the comments the writer claims are myths (I think that's what he's saying) seem like legitimate statements to me, but I can't be sure where he stands because the writer doesn't elaborate at all on why he believes these are myths to be discounted.

I understood this was going to be like MythBusters, where a satement or belief was presented, and then through whatever means was either busted or proven correct. The only thing I got from this article was confused.

This should of, in no way, been compared with MythBusters. I understood the premise of the show and the results were clear, but this just appeared to be a running group of random statements.

This was an article with a lot of promise that fell flat. There is no closure. There is little by way of explanation. It's like the author was on deadline and had a half-baked idea that he couldn't follow through on. Amazingly disappointing.

my opion, if we can with a open mind and a open heart, read Gods word and ask for understanding with it, we'll find our awnsers, after all isnt that why were suppose to learn his word and seek his kingdom, so when confronted with reports or statements like above , we wont have to question what one feels or is inspired to write , we'll know, and by the way,to the one who claimed he was going to hell, god has a different place for you, far better than you might want to except at the moment, it isnt him who will condemn you first, its your self that will do that, he just has to follow threw with what you or any of us choose to do with our life while here on earth, nobody knows whats in ones heart but that person and god, which is why it clearly states in the bible , and dont quote me please cause my memory isnt the best, but something along the lines of whats in ones heart will be shown from what comes out of there mouth.

I'm not sure how to respond to this article because even though it appears the author is presenting entirely from one side, I can't tell for sure if he's saying that all of these beliefs are false, or all are true, or some are true and some are false. (If the first, I'd say it contains a lot of obvious prejudice and ignorance; if the second, I'd say it's just scattered; if the third, I'd say OK, now let's examine them one by one.)

Additionally, the article seems unfinished; there are many typos and grammatical errors, and some of these items are not even statements, only phrases that don't really say anything concrete. Other statements seem rather off-the-wall, not at all something I or anyone I know has "adopted as a belief" in my 25 years as a well read, reasonably experienced Christian and student of theology.

In other words, there's not much here to work with.

I don't think a list of made up assumptions constitutes an article. I am disappointed. I believe the author needs to focus on one topic at a time for greater impact.

The Republican Party is THE MOST hateful organization than any other organized group I've ever seen!

If They think they represent God and "family values" then this country's in trouble!!!

I love Jesus and I'm a Democrat, so according to Pat Robertson I guess I'm going to hell.

i wanted to point out something that a lot of people misunderstand about God. there is no such thing as an unanswered prayer. God always gives us one of three answers. they are, yes, no, and wait or not right now. a better way of saying the last one is the time isn't right. how many times in the Bible do we see that answer given. when we get one of the latter two answers we don't like it. we get all wrapped up in our own will and forget to pray for God's or let it be done in our lives. we need to step aside and let God through, let Him work through us and in us. this article is yet another product of the world pushing in to our pulpits and moral relativism. oh and by the way, there is no such thing as a gay gene. noone is born that way nor does God make people gay. study the scriptures and you will discover this truth. to be "gay" one has to have made a concious decision to be that way. the same as that noone is born Christian. accept the absolute truth.

I think there might be some confusion in regards to the intent of the article. MythBusters is a cable TV show that presents certain concepts and the MythBusters crew then attempts to "legitimize" the concept or to "bust" the concept. With this in mind the author put forth some concepts with the thought of discussion on the topic with the idea that some concepts are legit while some need to be busted.

I am confused by this article. I don't think these are myths or false doctrine (as is being implied by the author) being perpetuated in the Church. If anything, these are things the world tries to get people to buy into. However, without scriptural context and argument (one way or the the other)...they are useless. I believe it would have been better to keep the introduction and launch into one of the topics/statements. THEN we would have something to talk about.

I don't think the author was saying that Jesus did not call us to community, but to avoid putting religion over relationship with Christ. When you look at the trappings of the "religion" of Christianity, you will find things that are either extra-biblical, but even against the Bible itself.

Now being extra-biblical is not necessarily a bad thing as the Bible is silent about some areas of church life; however, when Christians place the practices, teachings and dogma of their particular church above a relationship with Christ, then there is a problem.

Christ called us first into relationship with him, not into a collection of rules and practices that may temporarily make us feel good, but in the end, don't save the soul. Perhaps it is our ritual that has caused so many to think they are really Christ's when they are not.

I agree with most of the statements made
but I disagree with the idea that Jesus called us not to be a religion.
1) Jesus worked with God's people to create a cummunity of followers who saw him as messiah
2) Jesus specifically calls his followers to teach the good news

If Christ did not call us to a religion than we are not called to community.

The idea that one can be a christian apart form community is like the idea that one can be human if we are raised by wolves.

We must lose our american individualism and remeber that community was key to who the church was an is today, even if we only share Christ with our family we are still in community.

If we are not feed by our love for eachother how can we effectively feed others?
God loves all people, and is always reaching out to the lost, the sinner, and we, yes we must be faithful to that calling as a group and not just as Individuals
