I was good with this great expository article right up to the conclusion. The purpose of the law to a Christian is as you say, "to mediate on" and "to know Christ better". But there is more. Just as the law is used by the Holy Spirit to convict a wicked sinner and bring him to salvation through faith alone, likewise He uses that same law to convict a Christian who commits sin. We can indeed claim our eternal and positional righteousness in Christ without further need. But our daily walk with God can still be corrupted by the fleshly acts of sin. These must be dealt with by Holy Spirit conviction and not by our own fleshly abiding in the law. As God said through Paul in Romans 7:7, "What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet." He says this as a saved man to other saved men.
