Can anyone tell me where in the bible we are told to pray to a human? specifically Mary, mother of Jesus. Also, are there any occasions in the bible when someone prayed to a human? Thankyou. I'm not terribly educated in these things but the fact roman catholics pray to Mary does not sit easily with me. We have a jealous God don't we? Love in Christ. Liam uk

Nowhere in this article is any sway to convert any Christian in one direction or the other. What I find to be so refreshing about what Ms. Jennings wrote...is how she took the care to
explain Why Catholics Have a Pope...just as the title suggests. There is a lot that Protestants and Catholics alike can take from this factual article. And in contrast to the negative comments, I truly feel that Ms. Jennings has represented the topic and her faith well here...so be
careful about speaking for all followers of Christ when you agree or disagree with her. There weren't any other news outlets who approached this topic in this manner about Pope Benedict XVI's visit to the United States. As a writer, as a journalist, as a woman, and as a Catholic...Ms. Jennings takes great care to represent the facts when she writes. And THAT my Christian friends...makes her a rare bird indeed. Agreeing with her isn't as important as thinking about what she has written here.

Sarah Jennings has surely opened a can of worms.
Her research into the Pope of Rome would have to be said to be a little biased. She has obviously consulted the Catholic Catechism in order to dig into this debate.
Jesus Christ is the "cornerstone" - He is the Rock - He is the "head of the Church". The whole theology of the Catholic Church and the Apostolic sucession of the Popes of Rome is a lie. It has no Biblical foundation as the Catholics would have us believe. The Bible does not reveal that Peter ever went to Rome .
Praise God that men like Luthor were used of God to reveal the truth and lead the world out of darkness into light.

The catholics know who Jesus is and what He has done for mankind...but they don't know what to do with that knowledge...they believe His work...but do they truly believe in Him-having that personal relationship...I say no...they have more mention of Mother Mary rather than about Jesus.I agree with the comment awhile ago...where are you going into this research? to help them justify what they have twisted? to promote unity with christians and catholics? I just saw a onesided research but not to the totality of the true light...Are you not then saying that Christ and Peter are of the same level? well in fact a stone will never become a Rock...Peter never became the foundation of the church nor the corner stone...Jesus is the cornerstone that they have rejected, why then is Peter shown as the foundation of Christendom? Please do take care...what you write is your accountablity before God...and my comment will also become accountable to him, take extra care, there is an effect to what u write

I used to be a catholic and when I was 14 years old I came to know Christ as my Savior and truly made my commitment of Jesus becoming not only my savior but Lord when I was 16. the past 24 years as a Christian has taught me well of how to follow Christ as to what His purposes in my life. Most of what you have researched is true in a sense to make us beleive that the Catholic Church have a Biblical basis and will like other religions or cults base their beliefs on what the Bible says and most of them may look as in context but the real truth...it is not. The background of Catholicism is purely pagan....the reason why Rome at that olden time incorporated the christian belief and the pagan belief so that they can know who those true Christians are and destroy them. The Pope as taught in Catholic schools is the actual representation of Christ here on earth...the actual visible head of the Church because Jesus is in heaven...making him-the Pope equal with Jesus.that is howqe they revere him

Kudos to Sarah Jennings for doing a well researched "report" about the Holy Father. All of which is accurate and thanks for leaving sources.

The Holy Father by no means sees himself as better then anyone else. That isn't Christian or isn't Catholic. As a recent Catholic convert from a strong Protestant background I truly thank God everyday for His gift to us, the Pope. He truly is a shephard to us all and I've learned a great deal from his teachings and his humility.

VIVA LE PAPA!

My question is this, what is the purpose of this article? Is this saying that there is no difference between Roman Catholic doctrine and Protestant doctrine? Are we to believe that the Roman Catholic pope and only he, is the rightful and God appointed leader of the church today? Without getting into another argument on doubtful issues (See Romans 14:1) if in fact a Roman Catholic believes in John 14:6 and understands that his/her relationship with God is personal and need not include the Pope, then I suppose it shouldn't matter too much whether Roman Catholics have a pope. However, it often appears that for many Roman Catholics the pope is much more than the highest pastor of the church and therein, often lies the disagreement between Roman Catholics and Protestants. Without a doubt the Roman Catholic church has been complicit in many spiritual errors in its history. Many that cost people their lives and freedom based on a notion of heresy. Sounds like doctrinal inallibility.

All this talk about the Pope and his so called "authority" over the Church of Jesus Christ would make one think that the Pope does have a place in Christianity. Do not be deceived. As an ex-Catholic I can assure you that the Pope does think that
he represents Christ on the earth and that he takes the place of the Holy Spirit in the Spiritual life of every Catholic.
They kiss his feet and his ring - this is worship and it cannot be denied. The Scripture says "let God be true and every man a liar." Access to God through the Sacraments and the Eucharist totally deny the Words of Holy Scripture.
Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life...no man comes to the Father but by me."
I was born and baptised into the Catholic Church but it was not until I was "born again" and filled with the Holy Spirit that I could see the total deception of popery. Come on Protestants let our voice be heard against this union with Rome that the Reformers died fighting against.
