I have just read "A New Earth" by Tolle. I have also just read the excerpt from "A New Earth, An Old Deception ." Tolle's book paints a picture in his book of people being very good to each other and upholding many of what I would consider some of the most foundational elements of Christian teachings. If people lived in the way that Tolle suggests than wouldn't the world be much better off? I really don't know what Tolle's angle would be if he is trying to deceive. Tolle is not asking people to deny Christ. I don't quite understand what you are fearing would come of his teachings? And why would God or Christ be angry with his teachings. In all sincerity, and as a fellow believer on the path, please bring light to this for me.

Like G. K. Chesterton said. "It's the latest and most up to date dicoveries of Buddha and Pythagoras." I never cease to be amazed at how many thousands of pages it takes to state, "It's all one!" Same old story, same old song and dance. Perhaps they think that if they pretty it up with all that verbiage, you won't notice how utterly silly it is, and how totally illogical. Not to mention unscriptural and anti-Christian.

Federal Treasury agents are able to recognize counterfeit money by studying real currency. Christians should do the same: study the real thing, the Bible, the living Word of God. The article has told us that his ideas appear to be correct just because SOME make a lot of sense. I wouldn't go to a whorehouse to tell people why I won't become a whore. I won't go to a crack house to learn why I'll never use drugs. I read His Word just as He has said in many Scriptures: day and night. Peter said be ready to give a reason for the hope that lies within you. He never said go spend time with the enemy to learn the truth. People often say, thinking their quoting Jesus, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." But that is only a part--the weakest part--of the Scripture. First Jesus said,Continue in my word, then you will really be my disciples. And you will know the truth and the truth shall set you free. You will refute Tolle's ideas by learning of Jesus' ideas.

Realize that Oprah thinks she's god, i.e., really works for Satan, and you won't listen to her, her advisors or her recommendations.

i personally have not read this book but i do know what she and toll are saying and i know that in the last days this evil that these people have been decieved with by none other than satan himself is going to be spread far and wide because satan will do all he can to reach people with his deception. this book and these teachings are totally deceptive and do not have part in a christians teaching from Christ through the LIVE WORD OF GOD only. We have to beware of the false teachers that Christ himself tells us to be in more than one spot in New Testament. Do not be carried away with every wind of doctrine that is taught it says in Romans and what happened to I Am the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6), not oprah and tolle is the way the truth and the life which they are basically saying they are.NO body cometh to the Father but by ME said Jesus, if you have accepted Christ in your life than only Christ has the correct way of teaching so only look to him He is Alive Read The WORD.

It is extremely important that Christians be able to spot and refute the New Age thinking that has crept into our society. I would encourage every Christian to read this book.

PART 4
IknowChrist: Its time for us all to step out in Love and show Christ's Compassion and Grace.

RA: I agree. But we must NEVER sacrifice truth. Here is where the problem with Tolle arises. he does not speak truth regarding very serious spiritual matters relating to God, Jesus, the Bible, salvation, eternal life, sin, forgiveness, and suffering even. Tolle, for example, says, "The message of all spiritual teaching is you don’t need to suffer anymore." he also says, "“[E]very spiritual teaching points to the possibility of the end of suffering—Now."

But this is NOT true. It is not what the Bible says. Jesus said: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Second, in his famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus promised: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” (Matt. 5:4). The Christian’s hope, in other words, is not to escape suffering, but to with the strength, guidance, and comfort of God (John 14:16).

PART 3

IknowChrist: It made me realize that I have a soul, that the Holy Spirit lives within me and that I can achieve a constant connection with God and Christ.

RA: Tolle teaches you do NOT even have a spirit. And he teaches there is NO Holy Spirit to live in you. And that "God" is not a personal creator of you, and that "Christ" is a consciousness of the divine that we all possess -- "Christ" was not uniquely Jesus, according to Tolle. So, my question is: How did you get all these notions from Tolle if it is not what Tolle even teaches?

PART 2

IknowChrist: Should we really be so quick to judge this material? I read it, and there wasn't anything offensive. It was so common sense.

RA: What I found/find terribly offensive is how he habitually twists/perverts the biblical texts by interpreting them not only contrary to language and culture, but also OUT of context. By doing so, he makes the Bible say whatever he wants it to say in order to bolster his positions. Moreover, he completely redefines "God" as an impersonal Energy, Life Force, All, One, Essence that permeates all things and is the real nature of all things (note: that is Hindu pantheism, not Christian monotheism). And to Tolle, Christ was no more divine than any of us, and he also did not rise from the dead. In other words, Tolle utterly guts Christianity of its essential beliefs. That is not offensive to you, "IknowChrist"?

PART 1

IknowChrist: Books like this [i.e., Tolle] are needed.

RA: Friend, books like Tolle's can do more harm than good. Sorry for saying that, but from what I have seen, Tolle's book at best can only be a quick fix for certain temporary problems that a person is placing. And along the way, Tolle is misdirecting them toward a false "God," a false "Christ," an a false sense of "eternal life" -- all three are radically redefined by Tolle in a way that critically undermines the teachings of scripture.

I have one more comment to make.

The reason that this type of material is so popular is because people are really suffering. They are crying out to God, often not even realizing how much they are feeling the need for Him. Books like this are needed. Its a small seed that God can use. If people become still and begin to re-connect with God, He does the rest of the work.

Should we really be so quick to judge this material? I read it, and there wasn't anything offensive. It was so common sense.

Christian society has not been listening. Instead the "solution" is to go out, browbeat people into submitting to Christ. People are turned off. They don't want to join groups that judge them, that are harsh.

Christians have lost compassion for people, they are suffering. Its time for us all to step out in Love and show Christ's Compassion and Grace.

These are the two cents of a Christian who found Eckhart Tolle's book relevant and useful. I have read the book and listened to the podcast. I found nothing offensive and in fact, the book is "common sense". It made me realize that I have a soul, that the Holy Spirit lives within me and that I can achieve a constant connection with God and Christ. I can do this by being still and listening, instead of praying (ie. yelling) at God. Instead of being so caught up in the "world", I can learn to view it with compassion and live from my heart. What does it mean to be awakened? When I realize how much my "ego" gets in the way. Instead of reacting to others with anger or situations in my life with fear or worry, instead of filling my life with useless material things that I don't need, I can now fill that whole with a connection to Christ and the wonder of God. I let Him take over.

I also am saddened by how defensive we've become as Christians. It is no wonder people are turned off. I am.
