[Martin Luther pinned the words to "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" but the tune is to a popular drinking song that was frequently heard in inns.]

You may want to check your history books there. Roman Cathlicism was not the only Christian community in its day.Salvation by grace and the bible as the final authority have always been believed by remnants of Christians before Reformation Day. If you study Baptist history, true bible believing churches have always been around, they just had to go underground because they were persecuted so much. Look at the Puritans and the Quakers, another community of believers. The Roman church was just the most visible church and the most powerful.

I do love reading about heroes of the faith. I know it must have taken a huge amount of courage to go against the flow, but he had to do what God lead him to do.Many others like Wycliff felt the same way! And I really love the hymn A Mighty Fortress!

Good article and worth remembering God's work through the man, Martin Luther. One note, the theses were written in Latin, not German--the clergy would have been able to read it, but most of the public would not.

It's too bad this wasn't mentioned in any of the articles about the implications of Halloween, "Harvest Day" or even as one church celebrates, "Hallelujah Day."

Reformation Day is our irrefutable Christian celebration for the date.
