"I Am a Friend of God"

James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Now Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness," and he was called God's friend.

Have you ever wanted to befriend someone but you didn't really know them, or know how to have a connection to them?  Perhaps it was someone that you admired from afar, someone that you would give anything to be in their inner circle!  Remember in High School when the cheerleaders always hung out, but if you weren't a cheerleader you didn't have access to that group?  Or being friends with a certain person gave you access to a particular person that you wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to become acquainted with.

So…. right about now, I am about to get up from this computer and just take a shout break!  Do you have any idea just how special; what an honor and privilege it is to be called a friend of God.  Before you shout with me though, just know that the verse says that…..Abraham believed God and God was very pleased about his faith.  So much so, that God then referred to him as His friend.  Wow!  Now, that is awesome!  There may be people that never will accept you because in their eyes you don't measure up, but God is waiting to be your friend!

Our relationship and faith go hand in hand.  To trust God is to know God!  And, to know God means we have a unique relationship / friendship.  I want to be able to go to God whenever I need to. I want to have that deep assurance that He will always be there for me.  And, as His friend just like Abraham I want God to count my faith as righteousness.  But WAIT!  My righteousness???  You have got to be kidding……..I am not righteous…My righteousness is "filthy rags!"  Right!  But in HIM we are righteous!  We have been made righteous by the blood of the Lamb.  Only in HIM can we ever be righteous.  The religious world would sneer at us for saying that.  They would say we were being, "Holier than thou!" Or Something!  I wonder if the religious world really knows how to be a friend of God!!!!  They are so busy doing religious stuff, that there is no real relationship with God.  Even saying, "I am a friend of God" makes a religious person nervous……..

I am thankful for the relationship that I have with my Heavenly Father.  He is ever-present in my times of need.  I just want to spend time with Him in worship, prayer, or meditating on His goodness.  Think about this…..What does a real friend mean to you?  Do you like to hang out with a real friend and do you look forward to the time that you have with that real friend?  Isn't it exciting and fun to have someone that you actually enjoyed being with?  And isn't it neat that a real friend will always be there for you?  I love the fact that you can just be yourself around a real friend! Well of course, then how would you feel to have all of that and more in a friendship with God?  So if we are a follower of Christ that means that we are considered a friend.  So for some of you….You need to get to know Him better…….Spend time with Him……Read His Word……….

The more you get to know Him, the more you will want to be right where He is…..And I don't want to miss one moment without Him…….I want to be right in the middle of whatever HE is doing!! It's awesome to know that, "I am a friend of God!"  And, I hope that you are His friend too!
