The woman conceived and bore a son, and when she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months. Exodus 2:2

The Bible says “she saw that he was a fine child,” using the same Hebrew word for fine as God Almighty used for good when He reflected on each phase of creation in Genesis 1:

And God saw that it was good.

Later, Acts 7:20 and Hebrews 11:23 repeat the same, that Moses was “beautiful” and even “beautiful to God” or “beautiful in God’s sight.” Clearly, this baby was noticeably special. Moses must have seemed near perfection in his mama’s eyes, yet she didn’t stop with just loving the sight of him.

Identifying God’s beautiful hand on her son’s life compelled her into action, and she obeyed, hiding him away.

Sometimes, we too recognize the splendor of God’s good work around us – maybe it’s in a person or a ministry or just a prompting that His Spirit whispers to our hearts. We get interested, even captivated.

Acknowledging God’s good work is but a first step. The next requires action and obedience.

As God reveals Himself, His beauty, and His plans to us, even in part, may we be in a place where we can recognize it for what it is – good. And, may we be purposeful to then respond with the obedience He requires.

Lord, please show us the beautiful ways You are at work in our lives and the lives around us today. Help us to recognize that which “is good” by Your hand. But, would You cause us to not only be enamored with good things, good ideas, and good visions, but Lord to actually do something about it? Help us to obey after we’ve recognized Your beauty and Your plan. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
