If there’s one thing Netflix has a wealth of, it’s superheroes. With the success of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and several upcoming projects including Luke Cage and Iron Fist, it’s no wonder the streaming giant decided to add another name to the list. The Punisher, who made his debut in the second season of Daredevil, will allegedly receive his own spinoff series. According to Entertainment Weekly, Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as the vengeful military vigilant. EW writes,

Marvel’s The Punisher marks the sixth series ordered (so far) as part of the collaboration between Netflix and Marvel Television, including the upcoming Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the ensemble miniseries The Defenders– along with Jessica Jones and the aforementioned Daredevil. (And in case you’re wondering, as we are, whether Bernthal’s character will also be added to The Defenders lineup, that’s not yet clear – though it seems likely he’ll at least pop in for an appearance.)

For Christians, this news is somewhat troubling. The Punisher has long been one of Marvel’s most violent characters, and while heroes like as Daredevil have shown to be influenced by faith, the Punisher is motivated solely by revenge. As of this moment, there is no current estimation for when the series will premier, though it will likely come to Netflix some time in 2017.
