This November, Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment will release a new film based on the harrowing true story of 33 Chilean miners who were trapped underground for 69 days. In a recent statement from CNN, the 33 men reflected on their days of imprisonment five years ago, with many expressing how it was faith in God that helped them to survive. Sarah Butler of CNN writes,

“When Chile's San Jose mine collapsed on August 5, 2010, people around the world were fixated on the fate of the 33 miners trapped 2,300 feet underground. The miners would end up spending 69 days below the Earth's surface before rescuers brought them all to safety. As everyone celebrated the rescue of the 33 miners, many pointed to a higher power -- a 34th miner -- who they say was with them all along.”

“In the aftermath of the rescue, those involved have recounted seemingly inexplicable miracles during their time underground and credited God with protecting them. God, many of them say, was the 34th miner.”

The upcoming film, titled The 33, will depict the events that took place during the miners 69 days underground. Also to be included will be the efforts of friends, family, and the Chilean government as they worked tirelessly to drill a 22-inch pathway through the collapsed rock. Christian audiences are hopeful that The 33 will faithfully recount the moments of faith these men experienced in their captivity, such as the birth of one miner’s daughter as described in ChristianHeadlines,

“Throughout their time underground, the men remained faithful that God was with them in the mine. One miner’s wife gave birth to a baby girl while the men were trapped. The child was named Esperanza, (Hope in Spanish) and gave renewed hope to the miners while they waited to be rescued.”

The 33 is set to premier in theaters November 13th of this year, and stars Antonio Banderas (The Spongebob Movie), Rodrigo Santoro (300: Rise of an Empire), and Cote de Pablo (NCIS).
