Scattershooting on a Friday morning . . .

1) Ran across an excellent website called The Genesis Files. "The Genesis Files web site utilizes modern Bible related resources that include the use of maps, satellite imagery, and graphics to aid in understanding the Scriptures." I also found this collection of Creation Science Resources.

2) Last month the Calvary elders voted to pursue a Multi-Site ministry plan. That means we want to become one church meeting simultaneously in many different locations. Our theme for 2005 is "The Church in Many Places." Yesterday  we received a large, glossy postcard advertising an outdoor youth festival called Lifest, July 7-10, Oshkosh, WI. The event features a stellar list of performers and will no doubt be a huge success, but that's not what got my attention. The front of the postcard features pictures from past events with this phrase in large print across the bottom: Church Has Left the Building. When I saw that, I thought it was the best multi-site slogan I've seen. "The Church Has Left the Building." That's what the church is supposed to do, and that's what we're trying to do at Calvary. Life Elvis after his concerts, it's time for the church to leave the building and go out where the people are with the Good News of Jesus.

3) More books on the ever-growing pile:

ne Thing You Need to Know by Marcus Buckingham
People of the Bible by Woodrow Kroll

4) A good friend asked me two food questions I cannot answer:

A) Why do people in the South put peanuts in their RC colas?  Any information would be appreciated.

B) Have you ever had cheese straws?  Are they any good?  Where do the ideas for this kind of food come from?

Growing up in Alabama, I often saw people put peanuts in their RC Colas, but I don't recall doing that myself. So I will turn this over to my Southern experts--Rick, Ken, Bruce, Jeff, Phil, Butch, Alan, Paul, or any of my other Southern readers. What's up with peanuts and RC Cola?

I've had cheese straws. At least I think I have. But they didn't leave enough of an impression for me to have an opinion. Insights and comments will be appreciated.

5) I'm still picking Illinois to beat North Carolina, but they'll need to play better than they did in the first half last night. Craig Hammond organized a March Madness staff pool. Fear not. No money is involved. Yesterday four of my teams lost: Alabama, LSU, Pittsburgh and Texas. Maybe five because I can't remember who I picked in the Texas Tech-UCLA game.

Have a great day and a wonderful weekend.
