1) We have just posted the first sermon in the series The Transformed Life (Romans 12-16):
2) When Nick called this afternoon, we chatted about this and that. At the end of the conversation, he said, "Go Rebels! Go Huskies! Go Bears!" The Rebels are the Ole Miss Rebels who are off to a 1-4 start this season but hope to win their Homecoming game this Saturday against Vanderbilt. The Huskies are the Oak Park-River Forest (IL) Huskies (Nick was the starting left tackle during his senior year) who are 5-1 and ranked 10th in the state. The Bears are of course the Chicago Bears, undefeated and without question the best team in the NFL, except maybe for the Colts and Peyton Manning.
3) I fully intended to make this "Book Review Week" on the weblog because I have a large stack of books waiting for some comment. Now the week has almost gotten away from me again.
4) For many years Bible students have pondered this solemn warning of Jesus: "Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops" (Luke 12:3). Mark Foley understands what it means. There is a lesson here if we will take it. Don't say anything in secret--over the phone or in an email or an instant message or a text message--that you would be ashamed to have written in large letters in the sky. Don't sin with your lips and you won't have to worry if your messages are plastered on Fox News five years later. Do right and you will sleep well at night.
