Today we attended a very fine church in Tupelo with beautiful music, a fine message, and a moving tribute to the mothers who were present. I happened to notice the following announcement in the bulletin:

"Churchwide Blood Drive, Sunday, May 28th. New 'Elvis Coming Home' T-Shirts for participants."

You can't make up stuff like that. Elvis was born in Tupelo and you see his face in many places. There's an Elvis Presley Lake, an Elvis Presley Birthplace Museum, and a self-guided Elvis Presley tour that takes you to various locations connected with his early years, including the Tupelo Hardware Store on Main Street (still operating) where he purchased his first guitar.

Thousands of tourists will come to town for the Tupelo Elvis Festival, June 2-4. Huge crowds are expected because this is the 50th anniversary of Elvis' 1956 homecoming concert. Key events include the . . .

Walk a Mile in My Shoes Charity Walk
Running With the King (5 K run)
Elvis Movie Poster Exhibit
Elvis Movie Themed Recliner Races

And my personal favorite . . .

Elvis Look-A-Like Pet Parade

If we can find a pair of sunglasses and an Elvis wig, I think Dudley would have a good chance of winning. After all, he ain't nothin' but a hound dog.
