One day Solomon was keeping court and two women came to him in dispute over a newborn. One was claiming the boy was her son. The other was claiming he was hers.

In the midst of the argument Solomon sat patiently but finally raised his hand and told the women to be silent. Turning to his bodyguard he then said, “Take a sword and cut the baby in two. Give half to each woman.”

Well, you know the end of the story. Upon hearing Solomon’s judgment the real mother cried out, “Please don’t kill him! Give him to the other woman!” Thus, she proved the obvious: No real mother would ever let her child be cut in two for all that would be left would be a dead baby.

Here’s a question: As we see postmodern fallacies sawing our culture asunder, which one of these two women are we?

Are we willing to let the king cut the baby in half or do we step forward and cry “no”?

As schools construct their false dichotomies that sever our children’s personal beliefs from their public behavior, their facts from their faith, and their heads from their hearts, do we tacitly let the king carry out his gruesome work or do we cry “no!”?

When we see the consequences of broken ideas paraded before us on the nightly news, do we cry out, “No? I won’t let you cut the soul out of my son or the virtue from my daughter! He needs morality to be a man and she needs piety to have purpose. Please take your sword away—let my child live!”

Today as you watch your kids get on the morning school bus, ask yourself again” Which mother are you? Are you willing to cry “no!”?
