Mob or Man?

If a democracy is the ultimate expression of the will of the people then why is it okay for a minority of people in California to overturn the majority of those who just voted for Proposition 8?

If a majority vote is the final measure of an election then why is it justified for a minority in Wisconsin to ignore the will of the majority who just won?

How about this:  If over 70% of the voters in Oklahoma approved State Question 755 then how can one U.S. District Judge ignore these people and tell them that Sharia and/or international law can supersede the democratically approved constitution that this same judge has pledged to honor and uphold?

Finally, how is it constitutional for a President who has taken an oath of office to defend the U.S. Constitution to unilaterally decide that he will not defend the constitutionally ratified DOMA nor uphold it as law?

John Adams told us that we are “a nation of laws and not of men” and by this he warned of the corruptions endemic in the rule of those who fancied themselves as above the law and above other men.  Adams knew human beings are an arrogant and sinful bunch.  He knew that if we are left unchecked by the rule of law – the laws of nature and nature’s God – that we always digress into one of two extremes: Either the anarchy of the gang or the oligarchy of the elites.

Without law there is no liberty and without morality the majority never wins. Because there will always be a mob in Madison willing to ignore the vote of the people and there will always be a man in Washington willing declare himself king.
